Three men including the brother of a Birmingham fraudster Mohammed Suleman Khan (MSK), known as “the General” have been ordered to pay back £13 million from a mortgage fraud.
Mohammed Suleman Khan’s brother and two associates face more time in jail if they do not pay the bill, one of the biggest sums ever demanded from criminals.
The same police team that put Mohammed Suleman Khan aka ‘The General’ behind bars have now caught his two brothers and a sister in law.
The operation was carried out by Regional Assets Recovery Team (RART) which is set to recover one of the biggest sums ever from criminals.
Suleman Khan was jailed for four years in 2014 for defrauding the tax authorities of nearly half a million pounds over nine years in order to build a mansion that was likened by a judge to Buckingham Palace.
MSK had built his own Buckingham Palace in Pakistan for £2.3 million which has its own Cinema, library and servant quarters.
His case attracted widespread coverage after police raided his home in Birmingham and discovered plans for the mansion. Using the Google Earth website they located the building being constructed in
MSK’s brothers Shahalam Khan, of Station Road, Kings Heath, and Shokut Zuman, of Selly Oak Road, Bournville, were convicted of conspiracy to defraud, along with Zuman’s wife Samiah Hanna, of Arley Road, Selly Oak.
Co-accused Arshid Khan, of Banks Road, Small Heath, and crooked broker Mohammed Mughal, of Chester Road, Bournville, were also convicted of conspiracy to defraud in August 2015.
The gang used forged financial documents to bag mortgages on 21 properties in the Bournville, Selly Oak and Moseley areas. The houses were renovated then rented, mainly to students, allowing the gang to earn huge amounts in rent.
Shahalam Khan, was sentenced to serve 5 years behind bars.
Shokut Zaman, was sentenced to serve 4 years and 6 months behind bars.
Arshid Khan will have to serve 5 years behind bars.
Mohammed Mughal will be serving 4 years and 6 months.
Mrs Zaman got a 2 year suspended sentence.
The court ordered the gang to payback over £13M.
Arshid Khan has to pay £8m within 3 month’s time frame or face another 10 years in jail.
Shokut Zuman has to repay just over £4M within 3 months or face another 9 years in jail.
Muhammed Mughal has to pay a little over £1M within 3 months or face another 7 years in jail.
MSK was ordered to pay over £2M which he dint pay and was given an extra 10 years sentence.
